Abstract(s)
The European Union has been developing several initiatives in the field of novel foods for human food. The previously existing regulations did not cover whole insects and their parts and therefore the European Union has changed some regulations, and thus born the Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 to cover the largest number of novel foods and the possibility of new foods being introduced to add value to the food chain and scientific development. In this sense, this dissertation is a review of the information currently existing regarding insects as food, taking as an example the dried yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larva). On the other hand, it could help applicants who wish to submit food safety dossiers for insect-based foods.
