Abstract(s)
no qual o enfermeiro veterinário assume maior importância.
veterinário e complementar o conhecimento adquirido no curso.
Canine urolithiasis is considered the third most common urinary tract affliction in dogs. This condition describes the formation of calculi in any portion of the urinary apparatus, frequently in the bladder and urethra. This condition has a complex ethiology due to being the result of the asociation of differente factors. The presence of calculi may cause infections, inflamation and obstruction of the urinary apparatus, hence the importance of an early diagnosis through anamnese, physical exam, laboratory analysis and imaging exams, including the quantitive analysis of the calculus in order to establish adequate treatment and posteriorly the preventive measures in which the veterinary nurse assumes a more significant role. The present report, was written within the scope of the veterinary nursing course's curricular internship at the Escola Superior de Biociências de Elvas. The internship took place in the Milagres clinic in Leiria, with a duration of 13 weeks, having started on the 12th of February and concluding on the 11th of May. Within this time frame, the student followed 188 dogs and 136 cats and developed activities in different areas, with a particular focus on: internment, complementary diagnostic exams, and surgery support, having watched 55 surgeries and 455 complementary diagnostic exams. Of the 188 dogs, the student observed a female dog with cystolithiasis associated with a urinary infection caused by urease-producing bacteria, and for its resolution, cystotomy was performed. The curricular internship, in general, gifted the intern with the possibility to become more autonomous and confident in the execution of diverse techniques performed by a veterinary nurse and to complement the knowledge acquired in the course.
