Debruçamo-nos nesta dissertação, sobre a problemática dos jovens acolhidos em Lares de Infância e Juventude Especializado. O estudo tem como principal objetivo perceber qual o impacto da institucionalização nas famílias e jovens e como cada um vivência esta nova realidade. O intuito é o de perceber como os jovens e seus familiares/representantes legais vêem a sua institucionalização, neste tipo de lares, e investigar se conseguem verificar eventuais mudanças comportamentais, cognitivas, sociais e culturais nos jovens.
No estudo realizado participaram 17 jovens do sexo masculino, todos com problemas de comportamento e de saúde mental, e suas famílias/representantes legais. Estes jovens encontram-se acolhidos há pelo menos um ano num Lar de Infância e Juventude Especializado.
Os resultados revelaram que as estratégias terapêuticas usadas, neste contexto, estão a originar algumas alterações comportamentais dos jovens e também é notório o seu desenvolvimento em algumas áreas. Para os jovens e para os seus familiares/representantes legais este tipo de intervenção é o mais adequado para responder às problemáticas existentes e acreditam num futuro organizado e adequado para todos.
We focused, in this thesis, on the issue of foster youths in Specialized Foster Homes for Children and Youngsters. The study aims to realize the impact of institutionalization on families and young people and how each one experiences this new reality. The aim is to understand how young people and their families / legal representatives see their institutionalization on this type of fosters home, and to investigate if there is any behavioral, cognitive, social and cultural changes in the youngsters. In this study participated 17 young men, all of them with behavior and mental health problems, as well as their families / legal representatives. These young people are institutionalized for at least one year in a Specialized Foster Homes for Children and Youngsters. The results revealed that therapeutic strategies used, in this context, are promoting some behavioral changes in youngsters it as also impact in their development in some areas. For young people and their families / legal representatives this type of intervention is the most appropriate considering that it respond to existing problems and they believe in an organized and appropriate for the future for all of them.
