Abstract(s)
The study of the integration of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Higher Education seeks to carry out a narrative review of literature, focussed on its importance in the academic community and oriented to the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in promoting OSH literacy in the academic community. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) considers that the training of specialised professionals, the development of skills in students and the promotion of literacy in Prevention and Safety and Health at Work are the responsibilities of HEI (EU-OSHA 2021). Regarding a strategy directed to the academic community, there are national guidelines up to the level of secondary education, leaving the Institutions responsible for defining the lines that best suit each IES (Directorate-General for Education 2021). Through the creation networks between HEI, some strategies aimed at Higher Education were defined. In response to national legislation, HEI consider OSH services in their strategic planning and objectives, as well as promoting OSH actions for their teaching and non-teaching workers. This study allowed an analysis directed to the perception of privileged strategies for the integration of OSH in HEI. Although there is no standardisation or benchmarks in Portugal that allow a specific approach to higher education, most HEI have implemented strategies that integrate OSH and contribute to the promotion of the health of the academic community, and the strategies used for the promotion of OSH literacy have been identified. Higher Education can contribute not only to students and future professionals to develop skills for the prevention of occupational risk factors, but also to improve the health conditions and quality of life of the academic community
