Abstract(s)
A linha ferroviária Valença-Monção foi construída em 1906 para fazer face à
crescente necessidade do transporte de mercadorias agrícolas e de passageiros.
No entanto, a queda da produção agrícola, o aumento de transportes privados
bem como a oferta de transportes públicos alternativos levou ao seu
encerramento em 1989. Com a desativação da linha deu-se o desuso e o
posterior abandono das estações ferroviárias. Em 2004, a linha ferroviária
acabou por ser requalificada e convertida numa ecopista (ecopista do Rio
Minho), mas as estações associadas à linha não foram intervencionadas. Assim,
desde o encerramento da linha este património encontra-se devoluto, como é
exemplo a estação de Friestas, em Valença.
No presente estudo foram analisados três estudos de caso nos quais as estação
de caminhos de ferro foram convertidas em equipamentos de apoio às carências
das ecopistas. Os estudos de caso selecionados foram a estação de Figueiró,
em Viseu, a estação de Benifallet, em Tarragona e a estação de Zaframagón,
em Olvera. Estes três exemplos fornecem material para identificar variáveis a ter
em conta na intervenção do património ferroviário adaptado a equipamento de
apoio a ecopistas em geral, e de forma mais particular na reconversão da
obsoleta estação de Friestas, no contexto da ecopista do Rio Minho.
Os objetivos deste estudo são identificar variáveis a ter em conta na intervenção
do património ferroviário adaptado a equipamento de apoio a ecopistas e definir
um programa que articule equipamentos de apoio à ecopista Valença-Monção
com a estação de caminhos de ferro de Friestas. A análise comparativa dos três
estudos de caso sistematiza os indicadores identificados em três grupos: a
adequação do programa ao local, a revitalização do uso do edifício e a
adequação da adaptação segundo as cartas internacionais.
A metodologia da investigação fundamenta-se na análise documental das
medidas executadas nos estudos de caso para converter equipamentos
abandonados. Pretende-se com esta primeira abordagem identificar as
intervenções realizadas no património ferroviário, apoiada com uma análise
documental e gráfica dos planos das estações. Foram também realizadas
entrevistas aos funcionários dos equipamentos, para perceber se a utilidade
dada ao equipamento é a mais adequada às necessidades da ecopista. Mais
ainda, a realização de entrevistas aos utilizadores da ecopista do Rio Minho
permitiu identificar quais as principais necessidades que esta ecopista apresenta.
O estudo demostra a pertinência da investigação da temática da reconversão de
equipamentos e concretiza-se num projeto aplicado ao património ferroviário
abandonado, fazendo com que o equipamento, após ter perdido a sua função
ganhe uma nova utilidade de apoio à ecopista do Rio Minho.
Abstract: The railway between Valença-Monção was built in 1906 to provide transportation of agricultural produce, goods and people. In 1989, it was closed due to the decreased demand to transport agriculture products, the increase of private cars and the offer of other public transportation. As a consequence, the railway and the adjacent stations were deserted and fallen into disuse. By 2004, the railway was converted into a greenway (Rio Minho Greenway); however, all the railway stations were sorely neglected. Therefore, since the closure of the railway these buildings have been degrading, as is the case of the rail station of Friestas, Valença. In the present study were analysed three examples, ‘study cases’, where railway stations have been converted into equipments related with the activities in greenways. Were selected the railway stations of: Figueiró, Viseu, Portugal; Benifallet, Tarragona, Spain; and Zaframagón, Olvera, Spain. These three examples provide an opportunity to identify concepts and factors that need to be accounted for when developing strategies to convert disused railway equipment into useful resources in the context of greenways. This is particularly relevant for the railway station of Friestas, which is currently obsolete. The aims of this study are to identify variables of the intervention of railway heritage related with the activities in greenways and to develop a framework that could be implemented to use the abandoned station of Friestas in the context of the Rio Minho greenway. The comparative analyses of the three ‘study cases’ were identified three main features to be accounted for: suitability of the strategy to the local needs, conversion of the building into a useful resource, and accordance to international directives. The research methodology is based on a documental and graphical perspective of the actions undertaken to convert the disused railway equipment. Were report results from interviews to workers in those equipment that have identified whether it is useful. Additionally, were present the main necessities of the Rio Minho greenway as obtained from formal questionnaires to users. The study concludes that the abandoned railway stations can gain new functions by being converted into buildings that support current or future activities developed in the greenways.
