Abstract(s)
The demographic projections show that elderly population assume an exponential growth. The process of aging has an endless changes in the elder’s life, that affects functionality, mobility and health, depriving the individual from an autonomous and healthy life. The autonomous and independence commitment of the elder affects the global functionality generating pattern changes in the posture balance, and consequently they are exposed to falls. This study aims the functionality in the elderly who have suffered falls. This is a comparative study with quantitative approach transversal held in Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila Velha de Ródão. The population / sample of 130 institutionalized elderly. For the picking was used the international classification of the range of functionality and Morse scale analyzed by SPSS. In the analysis of the results it was found that there are significant limitations in the most of all dimensions that assess the functionality of (except in the sensation of pain respiratory system, the using of hand and arm , eating and drinking) and the risk of falling is high.
