O tema deste trabalho prende-se com o contribuo das forças de Polícia Militar no
diversificado espectro de Operações de Apoio à Paz a que são chamadas a actuar.
A doutrina e preparação destas forças assumem um papel preponderante na
condução das suas missões nos Teatros de Operações designados pelas Organizações Internacionais de Segurança. O presente estudo visa assim, verificar e analisar a adequação da doutrina preconizada pela Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte para as forças de
Polícia Militar nos ambientes de apoio à paz. Para tal, os métodos de investigação científica baseiam-se na observação directa e na realização de entrevistas com vista a resposta à pergunta de investigação.
Os resultados mais relevantes do estudo verificaram-se ao nível da relação e comparação entre as actividades e tarefas da Polícia Militar e os cenários de apoio à paz, incluindo os estudos de caso da forma de actuação da Polícia Militar nos Teatros de Operações do Kosovo e do Afeganistão.
No final regista-se a adequação do emprego de forças de Polícia Militar para as actividades desenvolvidas nas Operações de Apoio à Paz.
Abstract The theme of this study is the contribution of Military Police forces to Peace Support Operations. The doctrine and trainingof militaryforces has a major role in terms of conducting missions in the theatres of operations indicated by International Security Organizations. Therefore the main aim of this study is to check and analyse the adequacy of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization doctrine to the Military Police force in peace support operations environments. Hence, the chosen methodology was based on direct observation and interviews. The most relevant results of the study have to do with both the relation and the comparison between the activities and tasks of Military Police and Peace Support scenarios, namely the case studies concerning the way the Military Police acts in Kosovo and Afghanistan Theatres of Operations. All in all, it can be stated that Military Police forces are fully adequate to perform all kinds of activities concerning Peace Support Operations.
