Abstract(s)
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a chronic noncommunicable disease and, when not controlled, can lead to serious complications. The prevalence of DM in the world is high and the perspective is that it will increase significantly. Patient compliance needs to be encouraged, with treatment and quality of life promotion practices firmly associated with health education. Objective: To elaborate, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention, based on "conversation circles", knowledge about the disease, emotional factors, quality of life and disease control. Methodology: Pre-test, post-test study, with quantitative assessment using the Problem Areas in Diabetes Scale, the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire, as well as the assessment of fasting blood glucose and determination of Glycated Hemoglobin before and after the intervention. Ten patients with DM2 (60% female) participated in this study, with an average age of 59.70 years (SD ± 9.787). The six sessions that constituted the educational intervention took place in groups, with a weekly frequency. Results: The main results obtained suggest a slight increase in the level of knowledge of the disease, an increase in the quality of life in 80% of the participants, a decrease in the problems and negative emotions in 80% of the patients and a decrease in the difficulties related to the treatment in 60% of cases. After the intervention, there was also greater control of the disease, given that there was an improvement in blood glucose values and 60% of the participants reached the therapeutic goal established by SBD (2017) for glycated hemoglobin. Conclusion: The educational intervention implemented based on "conversation circles", contributed positively to the improvement of the emotional well-being, quality of life and glycemic control of the study participants.
