Abstract(s)
Rehabilitation Nursing Care (RNC) is recognized as a specialised area in nursing practice, for people with special needs, in different settings. Hospitalization at Home (HaH) is one of these possible settings for rehabilitation nurses, where they have the opportunity to develop skills and implement a wide range of specialised interventions for patients and their families. Their specialized interventions express evident health gains. HaH emerged as an innovating definition, that originated a change of approach regarding healthcare and rehabilitation nurses, in particular, who embraced the modernization of health services and adapted to the new circumstances. Among nursing rehabilitation practice fields, respiratory rehabilitation (RR) intervention for patients with respiratory disease is particularly important these days due to the impact of these diseases in our society, whether in potentially treatable respiratory conditions, whether in chronic respiratory diseases. The performance of specialized interventions from rehabilitation nurses with people who have respiratory disease, through home hospitalization improves health gains such as the reduction of prolonged hospitalization, the decrease of hospital admissions and readmissions, a decline of self-care dependency levels and an increase in patients and their families satisfaction. Therefore, the development of skills and knowledge of rehabilitation nurses in this pioneering context, demonstrate that is possible to provide specialized, quality, and safe nursing care, outside hospital boundaries.
