Abstract(s)
Introduction: The application of platelet-rich fibrin in implantology has recently been widely studied. This systematic review presents the following research question: Does the individual or concomitant application of PRF have benefits in the field of alveolar preservation, bone regeneration, sinus elevation, implant stability, in the treatment of peri-implantitis and in the reduction of post-operative complications? Materials and Methods: An electronic search was carried out in 4 databases (PubMed, Web of Science, B-on and Scopus). The survey was conducted until 21 of June of 2021. Only randomized clinical trials in english, portuguese or spanish were included for analysis. Results: As a result of the research, 6814 articles emerged, of which only 52 were included for analysis. The risk of bias showed about 27% of low risk, 29% of some concern and 44% of high risk. Discussion: The preparation protocols, the selection of clinical parameters and the time periods in which they were evaluated make it difficult to really measure the benefits of using PRF in implantology. Conclusion: It was not possible to determine the effectiveness of the PRF in the different contexts in which it was applied. Additional randomized controlled clinical trials are required. Clinical relevance: Although it is not clear that the PRF has favorable results when applied alone, it is certainly a hypothesis to consider when planning rehabilitation with implants.
