Abstract(s)
Centro Social e Paroquial no distrito do Porto.
de Gerontologia Social do Instituto Superior de Serviço Social do Porto (ISSSP).
The main objective of this report is to present all the activities carried out during the curricular internship, which took place in a Day Centre of a Social and Parish Centre in the district of Porto. It lasted about four months, from 17 October 2022 to 3 February 2023, at the Centro de Dia, as part of the Master's Degree in Social Gerontology of the Higher Institute of Social Work of Porto (ISSSP). The main objectives of this internship were to deepen skills oriented towards the performance of professional activities in this area of specialization, to exercise the ability to invest theory in practice through the formulation of an intervention model, and to develop reflective capacity through the preparation of a final report that integrates the evaluation process of all the theoretical work and research or intervention implemented. In this internship context, it was possible to verify the need to restart and promote the interaction and relationships between older users of this Day Centre and the children in FTA (Free Time Activities) of this same institution, who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. An intervention project entitled "Promoting the Psychological Well-being of Older People through Intergenerational Relationships" was therefore developed and implemented, with the main aim of evaluating the effects of these intergenerational activities on the psychological well-being of the older people in this day center. This intervention project was developed based on a literature review on this topic, as well as on information gathered and analyzed for the social diagnosis and SWOT analysis of the internship institution. To evaluate this project, an interview was carried out to assess the participants' perception of the different intergenerational activities carried out. To assess its effect on the psychological well-being of the participants, the Psychological Well-Being Scale (EBEP) was applied before and after the end of the program. The quantitative data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS ® Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and the qualitative data was analyzed using Bardin's method. Eight users took part in this intervention project (mean age = 83.13 years), and a total of five intergenerational activities were carried out. In the qualitative evaluation, the majority of participants gave a positive assessment of the activities undertaken. In the quantitative analysis, an increase in the mean values, from the first to the second evaluation, of the domains and total score of the EBEP scale was found, which reflects an improvement in the participants' psychological well-being. This internship was a very enriching experience as a whole, not only because of the opportunity to be in contact with older people, but also because of the possibility of carrying out an intergenerational project that contributed to the greater psychological well-being of these older people. This internship also allowed me to deepen my theoretical knowledge and professional skills, which are essential for quality work with older people.
