Abstract(s)
This Report, prepared within the scope of the curricular unit “Internship with Report” of the Master's Degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, is intended for public presentation and discussion for the purpose of obtaining the degree of Master/Specialist Nurse. Its objectives are to: (i) document the training pathway throughout three internships; (ii) demonstrate the development of the common competencies of the Specialist Nurse and the specific competencies of the Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Specialist; and (iii) present the advanced practice and master's-level skills acquired during the internships. The training path took place across three healthcare contexts in Northern Portugal—Community Care Unit, Adult Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, and the Context of Specialized Responses (Institute for Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies – Centre for Integrated Responses). These settings provided complementary and progressively complex experiences. In the community context, competencies in mental health promotion were strengthened; in the adult acute psychiatric context, crisis management interventions and behaviour modification strategies in inpatient settings were deepened; in the specialized response context, harm reduction strategies and relapse prevention in addiction were consolidated, directly linked to the project "Psychotherapeutic Intervention for Behaviour Modification in People with Anxiety." This progression enabled the integration of theory, practice, and reflection, reflecting the gradual acquisition of clinical autonomy and competencies. Methodologically, a descriptive, analytical, and reflective approach was adopted. Clinical practice was grounded in current scientific evidence, professional standards, and legal frameworks. The result is a document that integrates theoretical knowledge, clinical experience, and critical thinking, demonstrating the professional and academic growth achieved throughout the internships in pursuit of the established objectives.
