Abstract(s)
As organizações reconhecem atualmente que a liderança a nível organizacional é
fundamental e que devem promover formação adequada e de qualidade nesta área. A
literatura demonstra que organizações que desenvolvem as competências dos seus líderes,
promovem uma melhor relação entre o líder e os seguidores, conseguindo potenciar o
desempenho dos funcionários e consequentemente a concretização dos objetivos
organizacionais.
A Polícia de Segurança Pública, como instituição fundamental no contexto nacional, deve
promover e incutir principalmente nos seus quadros superiores a necessidade de adquirirem
competências e conhecimentos sobre esta temática, promovendo desta forma líderes
reconhecidos pelos seus seguidores.
Esta investigação tem como objetivo identificar as características de liderança dos Oficiais
de Polícia da Polícia de Segurança Pública e identificar o estilo de liderança que os
caracteriza.
Neste entorno, promoveu-se um estudo exploratório, desenvolvido através do método
quantitativo, que na nossa investigação, se traduziu na aplicação de um inquérito por
questionário aos Oficiais de Polícia. Falar e atuar em representação do grupo, procurar
atingir os objetivos organizacionais, promover a coesão organizacional ou desempenhar
ativamente o papel de líder, são algumas das características mais evidenciadas nos Oficiais
de Polícia. A liderança dos Oficias de Polícia é caracterizada pela liderança
transformacional, estilo esse que tem uma repercussão positiva em termos organizacionais.
Desta forma destaca-se a necessidade de a Polícia de Segurança Pública continuar a
promover a formação inicial e contínua nesta área, desenvolvendo as competências de
liderança dos polícias que exercem funções de comando.
Organizations nowadays recognize that leadership at the organizational level is essential and that they should promote adequate and quality training in this area. The literature shows that organizations that develop the competencies of their leaders promote a better relationship between the leader and the followers, managing to enhance the employees' performance and, consequently, the achievement of organizational goals. The Public Security Police, as a fundamental institution in the national context, should promote and instil, especially in its senior officers, the need to acquire skills and knowledge on this issue, promoting leaders recognized by their followers. This research aims to identify the leadership characteristics of Police Officers of the Public Security Police and identify their leadership style. In this context, we promoted an exploratory study, developed through the quantitative method, which, in our research, translated into the application of a questionnaire survey to the Senior Police Officers. Speaking and acting on behalf of the group, seeking to achieve organizational goals, promoting organizational cohesion, or actively playing the role of leader are some of the most evident characteristics of Police Officers. The leadership of Police Officers is characterized by transformational leadership, this leadership style has a positive repercussion in organizational terms. In this way, we highlight the need for the Public Security Police to continue to promote initial and continuous training in this area, developing the leadership skills of police officers in command.
