Este trabalho foi elaborado no âmbito do Curso de Promoção a Oficial Superior
incidindo no impacto do Poder Aéreo Português no conflito entre as Forças Armadas
Portuguesas e o Partido Africano para a Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde no
território da atual Guiné-Bissau, e, especificamente na análise da estratégia que a Força
Aérea Portuguesa adotou na sua atividade operacional.
Com tal desiderato foi necessário investigar e analisar os meios disponíveis, o
dispositivo, a tipologia de missões e o emprego das aeronaves, capacidades do
adversário e concluir quanto à efetividade das operações executadas pela Força Aérea.
A metodologia aplicada e tendo em conta que se trata de uma investigação de
índole histórica, segue um raciocínio essencialmente indutivo com uma estratégia de
tipo qualitativa.
Quanto ao desenho de pesquisa, este seguiu a matriz de pesquisa histórica,
centrando-se na análise crítica de conteúdos oriundos de fontes textuais, impressas e
manuscritas, primárias e secundárias.
Do estudo e conclusões acerca da efetividade estratégia aérea utilizada pelo
Poder Aéreo português no conflito da Guiné entre 1972-74, destaca-se que a sua
capacidade de adaptação mantendo um elevado grau de atividade e efetividade
operacional, a flexibilidade e capacidade de manter a iniciativa do lado português. Abstract: The present work was carried out as part of the Superior Officer Promotion
Course and focused on the impact of the Portuguese Air Power in the conflict between
the Portuguese Armed Forces and the African Party for the Independence of Guinea
and Cape Verde in the Guinea-Bissau territory and, more precisely, in the analysis of
the Portuguese Air Force strategy in her operational activity.
To achieve such an undertaking, it was necessary to investigate the means, the
infrastructure, the missions, the air assets employment, the adversary and conclude
about the effectiveness of Air operations executed by the Air Force.
Considering the historic aspect of this research, its methodology follows
essentially an inductive reasoning with a quality strategy method.
In terms of research design, this work has followed an historic research matrix,
focusing in the critical analysis of text and oral sources, both primary and secondary.
Following the study and conclusions reached about the effectiveness of the
Portuguese Air Power strategy in the Guinea conflict between 1972-74, it is
highlighted its capacity to adapt maintaining high operational activity and
effectiveness, its flexibility and role on keeping initiative on the Portuguese forces side.
