O presente trabalho trata-se de um estudo sobre a inclusão social da população no turismo, tendo em conta as diferentes transformações socioculturais que têm vindo a acontecer nos bairros históricos de Lisboa, nos últimos anos. A progressiva instalação de imigrantes provenientes, sobretudo da Ásia Meridional, e o crescente número de turistas que visitam o destino pós-pandemia, têm resultado em diversos impactos para a comunidade recetora, muito caracterizada pela sua forte identidade tradicional e “espírito bairrista”. Desta forma, a metodologia usada foi a realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas a diversas associações de inclusão social, que conhecem a realidade sociocultural atual dos bairros históricos lisboetas e os principais efeitos que a atividade turística tem tido nestas comunidades e respetivos estilos de vida. Os dados mostraram que, apesar dos fortes impactos negativos a nível sociocultural, as receitas e benefícios económicos da atividade turística, têm tido um papel determinante na forma como tem sido gerido o destino, afetando profundamente o tecido comunitário destes bairros. Este estudo contribui também, para a compreensão do papel crucial que a inclusão desempenha no setor do turismo para as comunidades do destino, destacando estratégias eficazes para promover uma indústria mais acessível e diversificada.
This paper is a study on the social inclusion of the population in tourism, considering the different socio-cultural transformations that have been taking place in Lisbon's historic neighbourhoods in recent years. The progressive settlement of immigrants, mainly from South Asia, and the growing number of tourists visiting the destination post-pandemic, have resulted in various impacts on the receiving community, which is very much characterized by its strong traditional identity and "bairrista" spirit. Therefore, the methodology used was to conduct interviews with various social inclusion associations, who know the current socio-cultural reality of Lisbon's historic neighbourhoods and the main effects that tourist activity has had on these communities and their lifestyles. The data showed that, despite the strong negative socio-cultural impacts, the revenue and economic benefits of tourism have played a decisive role in the way the destination has been managed, profoundly affecting the communities of these neighbourhoods. This study also contributes to the understanding of the crucial role that inclusion plays in the tourism sector for destination communities, highlighting effective strategies to promote a more accessible and diverse industry.
