Abstract(s)
This report focuses on the journey undertaken within the scope of the Master's Degree in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto, and aims to describe in a reflective and critical way the presentation of the knowledge obtained in the formative path and the consequent acquisition of the common and the specific skills of a Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, supporting the reflection on practices in comparison with scientific evidence. To carry it out, a descriptive, reflective and critical work methodology was implemented, supported by the reflection of the different clinical contexts. In this framework, Internships of Professional Nature were carried out in the clinical practice context – Pediatrics Inpatient Service, Pediatric Emergency Service, Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Primary Health Care. The drafting of this report was preceded by a project to develop specialized clinical skills, in the area of Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, under the theme “Compromised thermoregulation - fever: promoting parenting in the face of special needs of the child”, which allowed me to develop specific skills of Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing and, in particular, conception and documenting nursing care for children/teenagers and mothers/fathers, with a special focus on compromised thermoregulation – fever. I believe that the development of skills is a dynamic and continuous process, which does not end in the Professional Internship or even in the course. This journey was a relevant milestone in my academic and professional career, in which I was able to acquire a set of tools that, in the future, will certainly be decisive for my professional practice as well as for the improvement of quality of care I will provide to children/parents.
