Abstract(s)
The current study depicts the interpersonal conflict management styles of police officers present in the 5ª Divisão and Divisão de Loures of the COMETLIS. The designation adopted is contained in the Two-Dimensional Model of Rahim and Bonoma (1979). The main idea of this work is linked to the process of conflict management, particularly the analysis of actions and behaviors taken in situations of interpersonal conflict, which are vital for understanding the phenomenon under study. Our sample consists of 152 police officers. The results obtained showed a strong crossed preference for the Integrating style, regardless of the situational variables that guided the indication of conflict situations. On the opposite, the style that proved to be the less used was the Avoiding. These facts lead us to conclude that the police officers that represent the chosen universe approach interpersonal conflicts in a cooperative manner, without prejudice of the differences found in mean utilization of each style, depending on the chosen situational variables.
