Abstract(s)
In this paper we present the Finnish results in PISA, their possible causes and the reactions they caused among education professionals and the public. These results are then compared with the Portuguese results in PISA and the results of both coun-tries in PIRLS. It appears that Finland and Portugal have opposite performances in these international studies, but also reverse. This, combined with a study by the University of Porto, allow us to question the universal validity of PISA.
