Abstract(s)
This document, in the form of an internship report, was developed within the scope of the Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto, which took place in a hospital in the north of the country. The discipline “Professional Internship with final report” was carried out in a total of 800 hours of contact, being distributed over 500 hours in the birth block, 100 hours in the postpartum period and 200 hours of hospitalization for pregnant women/maternal-fetal medicine. It is worth noting that the 200 hours of hospitalization of pregnant women/maternal-fetal medicine were carried out in the context of a consultation, due to the fact that the institution does not have a sufficient and constant number of pregnant women admitted annually. The professional internship was carried out in different clinical contexts and areas of activity, especially in the birth block, postpartum period and hospitalization of high-risk pregnant women. This report aims to present a critical-reflexive reflection around the process of developing skills throughout the clinical internship illustrated from clinical cases. Thus, a description and reflective analysis of the care design process, diagnostic activities and interventions in the areas of activity of the Nurse Specialist in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing will be developed, through six clinical cases. This entire process was based on the most current scientific evidence, thus allowing a reflection on the action, and thus, an improvement in the systematization of the common skills of the Specialist Nurse, and the specific skills and knowledge of the Specialist Nurse in Maternal Health Nursing and Obstetrics, presented in Regulation nº 140/2019 of February 6, 2019 and in Regulation nº 391/2019 of May 3, 2019, respectively. During the context of the birth block stage, I came across needs on the part of parturient women regarding the different positions they could adopt, in order to facilitate the progress of labor. Therefore, I decided to delve deeper into the topic in relation to the positions that women can choose and adopt and that will facilitate the evolution of labor during the active phase, in order to develop knowledge that allows me to provide specialized, evidence-based care and increase my ability to involve women in decision-making, using their own positions as a resource to facilitate the evolution of labor.
