Abstract(s)
A relevância
entrevista, a saber: André Tavares; Bárbara Rangel; Brandão & Costa Lima
(Amélia Costa e Rodrigo Lima); Fátima Fernandes; Jorge Figueira; Manuel
Correia Fernandes; Maria Manuel Oliveira; Paula Santos; Pedro Partidário; Samiarquitectos
Abstract: This essay on "The Space of Women in Architecture" analyses the gender relation, mostly feminine, with architecture. The significance of women's role as an architect is consolidated from the late eighteenth century, due to the gradual access of women to academic teaching and also due to essential social changes. This research focuses on the female connection with architecture in order to conform - broadly and comprehensively - the path of women in a "conspicuously male world”, at social, cultural or architectural levels. In the first part of this research the relation between gender and architecture is developed from a social and professional perspective, being the element “home” considered as a shelter. The second part focuses on the interpretation of architecture from gender, body and according to public or private spatiality. In the third part of this thesis, it is accomplished a transversal reading on gender in the Modern Movement and in the Post-modernism, from an intersecting analysis of authors (both male and female) and their architectural, theory ethical and practical / design production. The fourth and last part of this thesis, the publishing of ten interview surveys has been authorized, namely those of: André Tavares; Bárbara Rangel; Brandão & Costa Lima (Amélia Costa e Rodrigo Lima); Fátima Fernandes; Jorge Figueira; Manuel Correia Fernandes; Maria Manuel Oliveira; Paula Santos; Pedro Partidário; Sami-arquitectos (Inês da Silva e Miguel Vieira). The traced methodology involved the documented research with primary and secondary sources and its consequent analysis in the first three parts of the dissertation. Each interviewee contributed with knowledge, information and data that allow the consideration of different problems and of different approaches, referred to in this research in a whole perspective. This consolidates the elements and the structuring reading keys that enfold the problematic of the theme "The Space of Women in Architecture".
