Abstract(s)
The successful outcome and sustainable performance of companies, organizations and institutions in the contemporary Market rely on their capacity to innovate. Customer loyalty is a direct result of how products and services are improved and tailored. Through a multidisciplinary approach comprising economic, sociological and cultural perspectives, this research aims to analyze the factors that promote school failure. In addition, it will be examined the current state of the Portuguese educational system and the extent to which, under the light of Marketing and Design tools, the fragilities of this complex system can be surpassed. The methodology of this study comprehends both workshops- involving students, teachers and auxiliary staff from Lumiar Secondary School- and literature review. The following hypotheses guide this research: the relationship established between Education, provided as a service, and school dropout rates; the comparison between more traditional teaching methods, frequently adopted by the Portuguese system, and those considered more contemporary; and the effects of design management tools when introduced on educational structures. The workshop revealed that the quality of teaching and levels of satisfaction fall short on meeting the expectations of students and parents. Hence, it is possible to conclude that the high percentage of school dropout reflects how the service provided in this sector does not fit most learning needs and difficulties. At the same time, the traditional teaching method does not coincide with the technologies available in the market nor the potential of the students, elements that influence school failure rates.
