Abstract(s)

This study examines the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and eating behaviors in obese individuals, focusing on the mediating role of cognitive control. Using a sample of 95 participants, aged 22 to 75 years, the study employed questionnaires to measure childhood trauma experiences, cognitive control, and specific eating behaviors such as food responsiveness, hunger, and emotional eating. The results indicated that cognitive control significantly mediates the relationship between ACEs and both food responsiveness and hunger, but not between ACES and emotional eating. Theres’s findings suggest that the impact of ACEs on eating behaviors is complex, influenced by cognitive and emotional mechanisms. Clinical implications include the need for interventions addressing both cognitive deficits and emotional aspects in obese individuals with a history of childhood trauma.
