Abstract(s)
The present investigation comes up as partial requirement to obtain a Masters degree in Political Sciences specialized in Criminology and Criminal Investigation at Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna, having as its guideline the answer to the question: Are teachers ready to mediate in conflicts put forward by deviant behaviours from their students? To answer this first question, the dissertation was structured in three chapters, namely, framing of the theory, methodology, the presentation and discussion of data and the conclusion. Deviant behaviour is a phenomenon with multiple causes and distinct demonstrations, comprising a broader panoply of behaviours than crime. It was opted to limit this study to the school environment, in which demonstrations are multiple as well, where one can mention school violence, indiscipline and bullying, such behaviours that must be pointed out and mediated. Two public schools were chosen in the city of Lisbon, from where a sample of the docent body was gathered. The study resorts to the quantitative and qualitative paradigm, manly inquires (n=50) and semi-directive interviews (n=3). The analysis of content and the statistical analysis through SPSS were the forms of data processing used. The collected data indicates that there is a shortage in the training in conflict mediation, and that we find family disruption, a crisis of values, the knowledge of impunity and the lack of acceptance of the teachers’ authority as main causes school violence and indiscipline. The data also shows that the relation kept between schools and security forces is good, highlighting the merit in the Escola Segura program.
