Abstract(s)
objetivo geral, compreender as vivĂȘncias do enfermeiro gestor durante a pandemia
enfermeiros gestores vivenciaram experiĂȘncias positivas e negativas, incluindo o
crescimento pessoal e profissional.
Introduction: The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, responsible for COVID-19 disease, was first identified in December 2019 in China, Whuan City, and quickly spread worldwide. The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has complicated healthcare delivery and management worldwide. It has required frontline nurses to respond and combat the demands of the crisis. Nurse managers had to face the challenge and threat of managing the pandemic crisis with precarious resources, exhausted teams, fear of uncertainty, and the powerlessness of not being able to ensure humane care for patients with COVID-19 and their families. Objective: The aim of this study was to understand the experiences of nurse managers during the COVID- 19 pandemic in hospital settings. Method: A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted between November 2022 and January 2023 in a hospital of the Greater Lisbon area. Data were analyzed using WebQDA software for content analysis. Results: The participants of the study were a total of five, female and holding management/leadership roles in medical inpatient services throughout the pandemic context. Through data analysis, three categories emerged - Management experiences; Management strategies and Management learning. We also found that, during this period, nurse managers had both positive and negative experiences, including personal and professional growth. Conclusion: The experiences of nurse managers during COVID-19 were influenced by changes in their roles and also by the support they received. Despite the changes imposed in the work environments, nurse managers always tried to develop knowledge and skills to provide excellent care to patients.
