Abstract(s)
This report aims to describe my learning process on the theme "Non-Pharmacological Strategies in relieving acute pain in hospitalized children: a nursing intervention." It was intended in this internship, contribute to the development of the Nurse Specialist skills in the care of child / family with acute pain, including the mobilization of non-pharmacological strategies to promote comfort and pain relief. Numerous non-pharmacological strategies are undertaken by all who care for the child, parents and health professionals, and contribute decisively to the relief of pain due to the disease, the treatments and procedures. We are guided through this route with contributions from Katharine Kolcaba, and its Comfort Theory (1994), which focuses on health care needs recognized as comfort needs the physical, environmental, psycho-spiritual and socio-cultural level. In this training process through experiences that emphasize the provision of specialized care to children / young people to promote development and adaptation to the health and disease processes. I developed technical, scientific, relational and ethical skills that enabled me to develop a specialized care in particular to reduce the pain and anxiety to the disease, treatments and procedures, and thus contribute to the excellence of care in an inpatient unit where children are received to live medical and surgical situations where the experience of pain is one of the problems they often face. In this way, it highlights their contribution to the development of a proposed procedure for the control of acute pain and the use of non-pharmacological strategies in order to harmonize the provision of care and promote the continuous improvement the quality of provided care.
