| dc.description.abstract | A Guerra Colonial Portuguesa, decorrida de 1961 a 1974, foi um conflito que opôs as Forças Armadas Portuguesas e as forças organizadas dos movimentos de libertação das antigas colónias, à época Províncias Ultramarinas, de Angola, Guiné e Moçambique. Ainda que só comece em 1961, o conflito nasce de todo um contexto histórico que se começa a compor no séc. XIX e que culmina com o cenário político internacional, imediatamente posterior à Segunda Guerra Mundial, marcado pelas guerras de libertação, descolonização e independência das regiões afro-asiáticas de administração europeia. Em simultâneo, formam-se os dois prinicipais blocos mundiais - liderados pelos EUA e URSS – que polarizam, politicamente, os movimentos de libertação. A Guerra Colonial Portuguesa foi, fundamentalmente, uma guerra subversiva de inspirações políticas, baseada nos conceitos de guerra revolucionária, libertação, terrorismo e guerrilha. Posto isto, exigiu-se das Forças Armadas Portuguesas, e consequentemente da Marinha, uma preparação e empenhamento para um tipo de guerra a que as forças portuguesas não estavam habituadas. A Marinha, dada a sua natureza operacional, foi vastamente empregue em todos os teatros de operações. Patrulhando as redes fluviais da Guiné, de Angola e Moçambique, exercendo presença naval oceânica nos principais portos das províncias, executando operações anfíbias com os fuzileiros ou tomando ação na propaganda e contra-subversão, a sua preponderância foi evidente. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The Portuguese Colonial War, occurred from 1961 to 1974, was a conflict that opposed the Portuguese Armed Forces against the organized forces of the liberation movements from its former colonies, Overseas Provinces during that time, of Angola, Guinea and Mozambique. Despite the fact it only begins in 1961, the conflict arises from a whole historical context that started to be composed during the 19th century that culminates with the international political scene, after the Second World War, marked by wars of liberation, decolonization and independence of the afro-asian regions of European administration. At the same time, the two main world blocs - led by the United States and the USSR - were politically polarizing liberation movements. The Portuguese Colonial War was, fundamentally, a subversive war of political inspiration, based on the concepts of liberation, revolutionary war, terrorism and guerrilla warfare. Therefore, the Portuguese Armed Forces, and consequently the Navy, were required to adapt and engage its forces in this type of warfare which they were not used to. The Navy, due to its operational nature, was vastly employed in all theaters of operations. Patroling the river networks of Guinea, Angola and Mozambique, carrying out an oceanic naval presence in the main ports of the provinces, executing amphibious operations with the Marines or taking action in propaganda and direct countersubversion, its preponderance was undoubtedly evident. | pt_PT |
