Abstract(s)
A presente dissertação tem como principal objetivo estudar e responder às questões relativas à definição e gestão da capacidade de carga turística afeta aos principais recursos naturais que suportam alguns produtos turísticos específicos, com particular aplicação à subida da montanha do Pico e à observação de cetáceos na Ilha do Pico.
A abordagem inicia-se com o desenvolvimento do quadro teórico conceptual e metodológico relativo ao desenvolvimento sustentável da atividade turística, com destaque para o turismo na natureza e a gestão da capacidade de carga, numa perspetiva de planeamento e de gestão estratégica.
Com esta investigação pretende-se aferir os benefícios que a valorização do produto turismo na natureza e de aventura acarreta, suportado por um modelo de desenvolvimento responsável, e definir estratégias e ações para a sua viabilização, considerando a sua sustentabilidade ecológica, económica e sociocultural.
A partir da revisão bibliográfica e da aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas a um conjunto de stakeholders da região, foi possível chegar a um conjunto de propostas que visam melhorar a gestão dessas atividades e recursos. Os resultados permitem ainda colocar em questão a necessidade de alteração, ou não, dos atuais limites de capacidade de carga.
The main goal of this dissertation is to study and answer the questions related to the definition and management of tourist carrying capacity affecting the main natural resources that support some specific tourist products, with particular application to climbing Pico mountain and to the observation of cetaceans in Pico island. The approach begins with the development of the conceptual and methodological framework for the sustainable development of tourist activity, with emphasis on tourism in nature and carrying capacity management, from a planning and strategic management perspective. The aim of this research is to assess the benefits that the tourism value of the product in nature and adventure entails, supported by a responsible development model, and to define strategies and actions for its viability, considering its ecological, economic and socio-cultural sustainability. Based on the bibliographic review and the application of semi-structured interviews to a group of stakeholders in the region, it was possible to reach a set of proposals that aim to improve the management of these activities and resources. The results also allow to question the need to change the current limits of carrying capacity.
