Abstract(s)

Artificial intelligence has been present lately in almost every place, mainly applied in the civilian world. In the military world, the application of artificial intelligence can be a challenge since a small decision can cause severe collateral damage. This work entitled "AI-powered military decision making: An Assessment of Current Capabilities and Applications" has the central purpose of analysing the possibilities and the application of artificial intelligence in supporting military decision-making. The research objectives include performing a systematic review of artificial intelligence research evolution, understanding how Artificial Intelligence can leverage faster and smarter decisions and identifying the role of artificial intelligence in military decision-making. It starts by giving a theoretical framework of the various concepts of AI present, their applications, and small notions of the importance of transparency in decisions between humans and machines. This work used a methodology mainly based on a systematic literature review and interviews. This research found that AI significantly impacts the military spectrum and that its applications are not limited to just one area of the military context. AI can leverage military decision-making through a huge speed of data analysis, allowing faster, more efficient, and better decision-making.
