Abstract(s)
mental.
O presente estudo permitiu apurar a diminuição do
The current study aimed to demonstrate the importance of Physical Fitness and the need to assess this component in PSP. Physical fitness should be considered as important as mental and technical capacities. It is recognized the role of physical exercise/physical activity to enhance cognitive performance and learning. Nowadays, the subject of physical capacity in the law enforcement has had a growing interest as well a higher awareness as a tool to improve wellbeing and performance at work. However, physical fitness assessments are only being applied in admissions to the PSP and on a regular basis to operational officers from the Special Police Unit (UEP). It is suggested that physical fitness assessments should be extended to all personnel, being proposed that they should initially be applied to police officers with operational tasks. Scientific research has proven the need for mandatory physical fitness programs, based on the physical demands of the job and relevant criteria from the physical assessment results. These programs aim to improve the quality of life of these professionals and enhance their performance. The literature showed a decrease in absenteeism due to a decrease in sick leave and an improvement in performance in specific tasks.
