Abstract(s)
Children's oral health is fundamental to their holistic development, directly impacting their physical, emotional and social health. This study explores the influence of carers on children's dental hygiene, highlighting the importance of education and active involvement of carers to ensure adequate oral hygiene practices. The main objective is to describe the role of caregivers in promoting children's dental health, analysing the correlation between their hygiene habits and children's dental practices. In addition, treatments and approaches that can improve children's oral health are discussed. The dissertation was developed based on scientific articles obtained from digital databases such as Medline-PubMed and the Cochrane Library, complemented by manual research in books and journals specialising in paediatric dentistry. The research included studies on brushing, flossing, regular appointments and sociocultural and economic factors that influence children's oral health. The results indicate that involved carers promote better oral hygiene habits in children, resulting in a significant reduction in caries and periodontal disease. The active involvement of carers and access to preventive care proved to be crucial factors in promoting children's oral health. It is concluded that educational programmes for caregivers, combined with a balanced diet and preventive dental care, are essential to promote lasting oral health in children, guaranteeing, through public policies, equitable access to dental services.
