At a time when there is a lot of debate in society about which zoos can be considered units of environmental conversation, rather than mere places where animals remain enclosed in cages after being removed from their natural habitat, it becomes predominant analyse the perception that visitors who seek this type of tourism, have of these units, as well as understand what leads them to choose to visit them. It was therefore chosen a Zoo, located in Lisbon, called the Zoological Garden of Lisbon. The Lisbon Zoo existed since 1884, but much has changed since its creation. It has changed its location, its size, and all its values have changed. The Lisbon Zoo presents itself today with the lines of a modern Zoo, and marked by 3 main pillars: education, conservation and investigation. This study has as main objective to evaluate the perception that the visitors of this institution have of it, as a unit of animal conservation, its importance, its real contribution to the fauna and flora and the way in which the visit to this space can influence to a change their behaviours. At the end of this work we can verify that there is an effective effect of the visit to the Lisbon Zoo, in its visitors, to change behaviour related to animal conservation, especially in school children, which visit this space with school purposes.
