Abstract(s)
The metallomechanics industry is fundamental to the economy. It occupies a key link in the chain of production, generating the final product and the raw material to the innumerous sectors, going downstream on the metal industry. As it is a dangerous work field with many accidents reported, it is considered highly important to comprehend this phenomenon. Considering all, the lack of systemic investigation of this work field and with the purpose of identifying the main causes of the accidents in it, this work’s main goal was to systematically analyze these main causes to the accidents in this industry in Portugal. The analysis made it possible to gather relevant information, important contributions in the definition of preventive measures, which could be the main factor in reducing or eliminating many of the possible sources of danger for workers exposed to different risks. To achieve this objective, accidents registered in the company, which took place over a period of 6 years, from 2014 to 2019, were studied and classified according to the ILO, which classifies occupational accidents according to: the nature of the injury, the location of the injury, the type of accident and the material agent. The methodology used in this thesis can be divided into three main points: bibliographic research on the topic, practical part - with the presentation of the case study - and conclusions based on the theoretical-practical analysis of the study. The dangers provide the circumstances that make possible the occurrence of accidents, resulting in most cases with serious consequences and placing the metalworking industry as one of the industries with the highest accident rate.
