Abstract(s)
This study focuses on Licenses for the Use and Carry of C and D Weapons, hunting activity and accidents related to hunting. This subject assumes special relevance, given the number of Portuguese citizens that hold these licenses and also taking into consideration the number of accidents with hunting weapons resulting from hunting activities. The attention was directed to the analysis of the legal mechanisms that allow citizens to obtain a License for the Use and Carry of Class C and D Weapons and the identification of several situations that could contribute to the occurrence of accidents with hunting weapons. Some aspects that could contribute to a safer hunting activity for all, not included in the legal regime in force, were also identified. The adoption of concrete measures, from the legal point of view, or the adoption of new ways of viewing hunting activity, could contribute to the mitigation and prevention of accidents with firearms in Portugal.
