Abstract(s)
Abstract This paper is divided into two parts, being the first related to the Call for Fire and the second with the role of forward observer. The first part intends to submit a common Call for Fire for Mortars and Field Artillery units in order to replace the current models. The paper analyzes the constitution of current models and proposes a model adapted to the one established within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The creation of the new model was based on field work and includes the contribution of operational staff and students of the Military Academy, through its application in various exercises, in order to identify possible errors as well as making inquiries in order to identify potential failures of the model at fulfillment level or transmission / reception. The second part is based on the "tactical" role of forward observer, that after a bibliographic analysis of the evolution of the concept of forward observer and conducting some interviews to clarify most current concepts, compares the current model in use in the Portuguese Army and presents a new concept of forward observer part, divided into levels, where each level corresponds to a capacity of observation.
