Abstract(s)
The demand for authentic experiences has solidified health and wellness tourism as a unique identity, resulting in the creation of products and services that interconnect the tourism and health industries. This intersection fosters innovative alternatives, such as festivals dedicated to health and wellness, which serve as social events for gathering and celebration. This study primarily aims to understand the Restday Festival’s contribution to participants' physical and psychological well-being. More specifically, it seeks to profile participants and their lifestyle, examine their motivations toward holistic tourism, identify the benefits this festival provides, and assess its contribution to the local economy. The sample consists of 129 participants from the Restday Festival, and the data collection instrument was a questionnaire specifically designed for this purpose. Through this study, it was found that Restday Festival participants value the environment conducive to relaxation and introspection, fundamental characteristics of holistic tourism. In addition to providing a platform for socialization and celebration, the festival acts as a catalyst for adopting healthier lifestyles, benefiting both participants and the local community. It is concluded that the participant profile at the Restday Festival shows a strong appeal to female and active adult audiences. Most participants exhibit a high level of education, suggesting a demand for experiences of socialization, self-care, and personal development. With a predominance of professionals in health, management, and education and a geographical concentration in Northern Portugal, the festival reflects its relevance as an inclusive wellness space, with potential for international appeal.
