Elopement Weddings: uma forma diferente de casar

| dc.description.abstract | Os elopement weddings são uma forma de casar, que apesar de pouco conhecida por alguns profissionais da área dos casamentos e pouco estudada em termos académicos, tem ganho maior relevo e sido mais procurada pelos casais que procuram realizar o seu casamento. Estes são caracterizados pela “fuga” dos noivos, que saem da sua área de residência, sozinhos e sem o conhecimento da família e amigos, para casar, sendo maioritariamente cerimónias simbólicas, mais íntimas, nas quais os casais se podem focar no seu amor e na sua união, sem terem as distrações que um casamento de grande dimensão acarreta. O presente estudo, tem como principal objetivo, caracterizar os elopement weddings, através da resposta aos seguintes objetivos específicos: enquadrar os casamentos no contexto dos eventos e do turismo; identificar as características específicas dos elopement weddings; analisar as principais diferenças e semelhanças entre os destination weddings e os elopement weddings; caracterizar a procura e as suas motivações; identificar os recursos necessários e os principais cuidados a ter no planeamento, organização e produção de um elopement wedding; e compreender se o contexto da COVID-19 fez aumentar a procura de elopement weddings em Portugal. Para tal, e devido à inexistência de investigação científica sobre o tema escolhido, decidiu-se utilizar diferentes métodos de recolha de informação, como a revisão da literatura, a análise de dados secundários, a realização de 14 entrevistas individuais a profissionais da área dos casamentos e a observação através da realização de um estágio curricular numa empresa especializada em elopement weddings. Este estudo permitiu concluir que o conceito de elopement wedding ainda não se encontra estabilizado, tal como é possível verificar pela inexistência de fontes académicas sobre o tema e pela discrepância e incerteza apresentadas pelos/as entrevistados/as. Também, foi possível concluir que esta forma de casar é muito específica, possuindo características próprias, apenas conhecidas pelos wedding planners cujo foco de trabalho são os elopement weddings. Por sua vez a perceção destes profissionais coincide com os dados obtidos através de fontes secundárias de informação, provavelmente uma vez que estas são produzidas pelos mesmos. Prevê-se que mais estudos sejam realizados no futuro sobre a temática em causa, uma vez que um maior aprofundamento é considerado necessário, devido à pertinência atual do estudo e da reduzida informação existente. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Elopement wedding are a way of getting married which, although are still not well known by some wedding professionals and not studied in academic terms, have been gaining importance and been look up by couples who seek to get married. The elopement weddings are caracterized by the “escape” of the bride and the groom, who leave their homes, without their families and friends, to marry. These are mostly symbolic ceremonies that became more intimate and where couples can focouse on their love for each other and on their union, without having the distractions that a large wedding entails. The purpose of this study is to caracterize elopement weddings by answering to the following specific objectives: “Fraim weddings in the contex of events and tourism”; “Identify the specific characteristics of elopement weddings”; “Analyze the main diferences and similarities between destination weddings and elopement weddings”; “Characterize the demand and its motivations”; “Identify the necessary resources and the main steps into planning and organizing an elopement wedding”; and “Understand whether the context of COVID-19 has increase the demand for elopement weddings in Portugal”. To this end, and doe to the lack of scientific research on the chosen theme, it was decided to use diferente types of methodologies for information collection, such as literature review, secondary data analysis, 14 individual interviews with wedding professionals and observation through carrying out a curricular internship in an elopement weddings specialized company. This study allowed us to conclude that the concept of elopement wedding is not yet stabilized, as it is possible to see by the lack of academic information on the subject and by the discrepancy and uncertainty presented by the interviewees. Also, it was possible to conclude that elopement weddings are very specific and have very specific characteristics only known by the wedding planners who work with elopements. More, the perception of these wedding planners often coincides with the data collected via secundary sources, probably since they are made by them. Futher studies on the subject are expected to be carried out in the future, duo to the current relevance of this study and the reduced existing information. | pt_PT |
