Abstract(s)
A hipotermia produz-
desencadear consequências a nível do sistema respiratório, cardiovascular, renal,
Hypothermia is the most common anesthetic complication in dogs and cats. This is defined as a drop in core body temperature below 37oC. Hypothermia occurs when thermoregulatory mechanisms are unable to maintain body temperature at levels considered normal for the species. Its occurrence can have consequences for the respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, neurological and immunological systems, as well as for the pharmacodynamics. The treatment of peri-anesthetic hypothermia consists mainly of its prevention, bearing in mind that it is easier to prevent hypothermia from occurring than to correct it. The aim of this report is to complete the degree in Veterinary Nursing and to describe the casuistry observed during the internship at the DoVet Veterinary Clinic. It is divided into two components: the first consists of a monograph on the subject of "Peri-anesthetic hypothermia" and the second is a statistical analysis of the casuistry, the study carried out and the respective clinical cases. During her 14-week internship, the student had the opportunity to monitor 369 dogs, 57 cats and 19 new pets. She carried out various activities, with particular emphasis on 338 nursing tasks, 180 complementary diagnostic methods and assistance in 129 surgeries. The student accompanied 15 animals throughout the peri-anesthetic period in order to obtain statistical data for this report. In general, the internship allowed the student to become more autonomous, independent and confident in execution of diverse techniques performed by a veterinary nurse and to complement the knowledge acquired throughout the course.
