This internship report presents the professional training pathway undertaken within the scope of the Curricular Unit Professional Internship, integrated into the Master’s Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing. Developed in a Local Health Unit in northern Portugal, the internship provided diverse and complex clinical settings for the delivery of specialized care to women, newborns, and families, thereby fostering the consolidation of both the core and domain-specific competencies required of the Specialist Nurse in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing (EEESMO). The methodological framework adopted was descriptive and critically reflective, grounded in current, high-quality scientific evidence. Throughout the placement in the delivery room, particular emphasis was placed on women’s bodily exposure during labour, analysed within the context of cultural diversity, which emerged as a determinant of obstetric outcomes and maternal experience. To deepen this understanding, an Integrative Literature Review was conducted, highlighting the relevance of culturally sensitive approaches in promoting obstetric care that is humanized, individualized, and congruent with women’s values and expectations. This formative process proved to be pivotal for the advancement of technical-scientific expertise and for the consolidation of a professional praxis that is ethically accountable, culturally responsive, clinically safe, and centered on women and their families.
