Abstract(s)
A philosophy of care in Maternal Health and Obstetrics centered on women flourishes in a relationship that strengthens their active role and empowerment through affirming their strengths and competencies, consequently promoting physiological birth processes (Ordem dos Enfermeiros, 2015). Coaching, by the Obstetric Nurse, presents itself as a tool capable of fostering this philosophy of care, as a form of support by the professional that proves to be an essential component for increasing the self-efficacy and empowerment of the woman/couple, with an impact on the quality of obstetric care and delivery experiences. This report's general objective was to reflect on the influence of coaching, by the midwife, in caring for women inserted in the family and community through reflective practice. According to the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, the scoping review and evidence-based practice methodologies, with Kristen Swanson's Theory of Caring being chosen as the theoretical reference, guide the path of skills acquisition. In response to the research question "what is the influence of coaching strategies, provided by the Obstetric Nurse, to the pregnant woman/couple in labor", the work developed concludes the evidence of the influence of coaching, applied by the midwife, in the following areas: emotional dimension and psychological of the pregnant woman/couple, health literacy, positive childbirth experiences, physiological childbirth processes, active role in labor, empowerment and self-efficacy of the woman/couple. This influence in such an impacting moment in their lives has a powerful positive effect on the woman/couple's experience.
