Abstract(s)
Introdução: O projeto Pedalar Sem Idade Porto (PSIP) surge do movimento
Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS-6) e UCLA Loneliness Scale (UCLA).
destes resultados.
Introduction: Pedalar Sem Idade Porto (PSIP) project arose from the international Cycling Without Age movement, which consists of organizing rides on bicycles adapted for older people, with trained volunteer riders. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of the PSIP project on reducing the risk of social isolation and feelings of loneliness among older people. To characterize the participants in terms of sociodemographic, health status, social isolation, and loneliness. To analyze the relationship between social isolation and loneliness. Method: This study includes the analysis of data from the PSIP longitudinal project, with a sample of people aged ≥ 55 years, living in the community or in Residential Structures for Elderly People (ERPI) in Porto. The research protocol was applied before and after the PSIP, including a semi-structured interview, the Abbreviated Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS-6) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale (UCLA). IBM® SPSS® Statistics for Windows program was used to statistical data analysis. Results: The finalsample (n=47) was mostly female (81%), widowed (66%), with a mean age of 82.6 (SD=8.5) years and living in an ERPI (72.3%). Before the intervention, 12.8% of the sample showed a high risk of social isolation and 23.4% loneliness. After the intervention, a statistically significant decrease in feelings of loneliness (23.4% to 17%, p<0.05) was found. Conclusion: PSIP demonstrated to have positive effects, with a reduction of loneliness among the participants, which is in line with other studies using this intervention. However, further studies are needed to deepen these results.
