Abstract(s)
Abstract: Over the XX century, various processes related to the rehabilitation of historic centers have appeared in a global way, wich in their turn have produced certain phenomena when it comes to historical centers located in sensitive areas of the city, from the socio-spatial point of view. These urban processes have been consolidated up to the contemporary period, in which there is a large number of theoretical production thereon. In the case of Vigo city, the historic center is a set of great antiquity, has a high value as representative city space and is located in the central core of it. Since the early twentieth century, urban growth has caused the alteration of urban morphology in the Casco Vello of Vigo, generating a negative perception of the environment and inducing their socio-spatial degradation. Later, between the late twentieth and early twenty-first century, has increased concern for the preservation of the historic centre, due to the high degree of degradation, this has given rise to a number of urban strategies for the rehabilitation and revitalization of the environment in which some authors have identified the progress of processes such as gentrification. During this work, I analyze, in an evolutionary way, the socio-spatial development of the historic centre of Vigo, in order to obtain data, both qualitatively and quantitatively, to provide information on current strategies for rehabilitation and revitalization, besides processes associated with them such as gentrification.
