Ao redigir este texto, não pretendo acrescentar qualquer novidade aos estudos realizados na área da fabulística, nem da epistolografia, nem tão pouco juntar mais uma peça ao conjunto de obras de arte existentes sobre os temas retratados. Bichos à solta é um conjunto de textos que se inscrevem na longa e prestigiada tradição epistolar. Não nos iludamos com as aparências e com os jogos ligeiros e graciosos que, em certa medida, para além da expressão de uma relação autêntica e apaixonada, também não deixam de se afirmar como estratégias discursivas e poéticas de um autor que sabe conciliar a sua sólida formação clássica com a sua contemporânea e comovente sensibilidade. No coração de um título, tão solto e aparentemente ingénuo, aninham-se vinte e cinco cartas profundamente pedagógicas. As cartas, tais como as de Séneca, o filósofo estoico cordovês que o Padre Manuel Antunes apelidou de “filósofo da condição humana”, não têm como destinatário uma figura retórica, um artifício meramente literário, mas sim um familiar intensamente próximo, que permite a troca de informações íntimas, quase sempre de índole filosófica, por vezes superficiais. A comunicação emotiva basta-se a si própria, tal como se satisfaz a comunicação poética. As cartas pontuam uma demanda muito subtil por uma espécie de Santo Graal donde irradiam as complexas e tão luminosas relações entre o amor paterno e as correspondências filiais. Nessa peregrinação opera-se um verdadeiro processo de iniciação que pretende transmitir os valores mais nobres da existência humana, consubstanciados nas mais sagradas regras de respeito pelo outro, pela natureza e por todas as suas criaturas. Conhecemos semelhante processo desde a sétima carta de Platão e dos vários volumes da correspondência de Cícero.
Cada postal ostenta um título, que nos permite seguir o crescimento da destinatária, assim como as metamorfoses e o processo de maturação do emissor. O local de redação desenha um percurso mítico numa secreta geografia de aventuras e emoções que o emissor partilha com a filha, enquanto confidente e única companheira que, sem o acompanhar, não deixa de estar sempre presente, pela força do muito amar. As datas da redação de cada missiva são frequentemente sempre co-memorativas, comemora-se a escrita, a vida, a liberdade, o ambiente, as artes e a paz. As que o mencionam relacionam-se sobretudo com as crianças, com a família, com a natureza e com os animais. É difícil não se render a tanta sedução, a um jogo tão envolvente de toca e foge. Jogar às escondidas com o passado e com o destino, com o tu e com o eu, com a água e com o fogo faz parte da arte das metamorfoses infantis, de golfinho a gato assanhado, de cão vadio a cavalo desenfreado.
While writing this text, I don't intend to add any novelty to studies of fables, epistemology, nor to add another piece to the set of existing works of art about the themes depicted. “Bichos à solta” is a set of letters, that is included in the long and prestigious epistolary tradition. Let us not deceive ourselves with appearances and with the graceful games that, in a certain way, beyond the expression of an authentic and passionate relationship, also do not cease to be affirmed as discursive and poetic strategies from an author who knows how to reconcile his solid classical training with the contemporary, and with his touching sensibility. In the heart of the title, so loose and apparently naïve, nest twenty-five deeply pedagogical letters. The letters, likewise the ones from Seneca, the stoic philosopher from Cordoba, dubbed by Father Manuel Antunes, "the philosopher of the human condition", have not addressed a figure of rhetoric, a purely literary artifice, but an intensely close familial relation, which allows the exchange of private information, often philosophical, and sometimes superficial. The emotional communication is good enough itself, as it satisfies the poetic communication. The letters punctuate a demand too subtle, as a kind of Holy Grail where radiating the complex and so bright relation between the father's love and his daughter correspondences. In that pilgrimage operates a real initiation process that wants to convey the noblest values of human existence, embodied in the most sacred rules of respect for the other, for nature and for all its creatures. We know a similar process from the seventh letter of Plato and of several volumes of the correspondence of Cicero. Each postcard boasts a title that allows us to follow the growth of the recipient, as well as the metamorphoses and the maturation process of the sender. The writing place draws a mythical route in a secret geography of adventures and emotions that the sender shares with his daughter, while a confident and only companion that, without being close, is always present, by the force of a great love. The dates of writing of each letter are often commemorative, celebrating the writing, life, freedom, environment and peace. Those mentioning, relate especially to the kids, with the family, with nature and with the animals. It's hard not to surrender to this much seduction. Playing hide and seek with the past and with fate, with you and me, with water and fire, is part of the art of child metamorphosis, from dolphin to tetchy cat, from street dog to feisty horse.
