Abstract(s)

Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six experienced professionals in the field to identify the characteristics, barriers, and facilitators of obesity treatment in children and adolescents. The thematic analysis revealed that the intervention is perceived as a multidisciplinary and systemic process, encompassing individual, family, and contextual aspects. Participants emphasized the importance of emotional regulation, family interactions, and motivation for sustainable behavioral changes. Collaboration among specialists from different fields and family involvement were considered key elements for the success of the treatment. However, parental resistance, difficulties in managing frustration, and the culture of immediate gratification were identified as major barriers. It is concluded that adopting a holistic approach that considers the complex interactions among various related psychosocial factors is essential to improve the effectiveness of pediatric obesity interventions and promote sustainable long-term outcomes.
