dc.description.abstractThis thesis delves into the pivotal importance of Foreign Direct Investment in the Portuguese Automotive Cluster, demonstrating the multiple impacts in terms of economic growth, technological development innovation, and regional progress. Due to the ongoing automotive industry transformation boosted by sustainability, environment, and innovation factors, it´s important to underline to explain the effects of FDI within this theme to all the parties interested. This study starts with an important review of the European context which demonstrates all the statistics and highlights the importance of the sector in a wider view. Afterward, the research focuses on the automotive Sector in Portugal demonstrates a detailed overview through the backing of statistical data, and highlights the importance of the sector in the country. This study then focuses on the importance of FDI firstly in terms of the countries need to receive this type of investment. Therefore, it enumerates and details the reasons behind this type of investment, its main types and forms, and the most important theories that I believe are better suited for the type of study that was researched. Also, Macroeconomic variables were taken into consideration in the sense of being crucial towards analyzing the impacts of FDI on the Cluster as well as some aspects related to the importance of FDI in Portugal including the country´s attractiveness towards Foreign Investors which gives a different perspective towards the research. This paper also highlights the evolution and the importance of the Cluster in Portugal and details FDI as a Driving Engine towards the Cluster. This thesis highlights the importance of FDI regarding technology spillovers, the importance of foreign companies to change the local view in terms of management in gaining production capacity, increasing efficiency, creating jobs that are driven by being highly skilled, and the investment in personnel development. This thesis enhances also the importance of FDI regarding local companies in the sense that were forced to adapt and innovate to be competitive. The relevance of the competitive boost allowed local companies to be better and with that led to integration into global value chains which led to its economic growth and development. This research also identified some challenges, such as the urge for frameworks that give stability to the sector in the sense that government policies regarding foreign investment need to be aligned with national and regional development goals, to drive economic growth. To conclude, this thesis aims to demonstrate the important position that FDI has in the Portuguese Automotive Sector, leading to enormous opportunities for development, innovation, and growth. By taking the right measures moving forward, Portugal can increase its competitiveness in the international market leading to economic growth and societal well-being and progress. The discovery present in this research provides clear and precious insights for academic researchers and industry superiors interested in understanding the crystalline and pivotal connection linking foreign direct investment and the development not only of the cluster but of the industry overall in a constantly evolving economic panorama.pt_PT
