Abstract(s)
Diabetes mellitus represents an endocrine disease with multiple consequences for the human body, including systemic complications as well as in the oral cavity. The present study analyzes the implications of this disease on the human body, seeking to investigate the constraints for the dentist when placing implants in type 2 diabetic patients. The methodology used for this study was a bibliographic review of articles whose object of study was diabetes and its implications in oral rehabilitation with dental implants, presenting as conclusions that, although diabetes has consequences in bone healing and osseointegration, it is a viable rehabilitation method in type 2 diabetics. Thus, the understanding and awareness of the pathophysiology and manifestations related to diabetes mellitus by dentists is fundamental to optimize the treatment of diabetic patients.
