| dc.description.abstract | Deparamo-nos, em Portugal, com uma nova realidade, na qual se evidenciam o aumento da longevidade e o envelhecimento populacional. As novas características da população implicam repensar o perfil das entidades reconhecidas formalmente pelo Estado como respostas sociais para os idosos e a sua capacidade para (cor)responder às necessidades e interesses dos mais velhos. As Universidades da Terceira Idade (UTI) constituem uma resposta socioeducativa, promovendo o emporwerment, o convívio em detrimento da solidão, e o bem-estar físico e psíquico dos mais velhos. Muitos idosos parecem encontrar, nestas instituições, resposta para as suas necessidades de integração social, reconhecendo-se e valorizando-se os saberes adquiridos ao longo da vida. No entanto, as UTI não são reconhecidas pelo Estado como uma resposta social. Com o intuito de se contribuir para a investigação nesta área, pretende-se, através de um estudo de caso, evidenciar, além do papel educativo, o papel social das UTI, nomeadamente da Universidade Sénior de Monforte. De referir que também a Associação Rede de Universidades da Terceira Idade (RUTIS) se move, presentemente, pelo reconhecimento social das mesmas através de uma petição pública. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | We are faced, in Portugal, with a new reality, in which are evidenced the increased of the longevity and of the population aging. The new population characteristics imply rethinking the profile of entities formally recognized by the state as social responses to the elderly and their ability to respond to the needs and interests of older people. The universities of the third age constitute a social and educational response, promoting the emporwerment, the conviviality to the detriment of loneliness and physical and mental wellbeing of older people. Many seniors seem to find in these institutions answer to their needs for social integration, recognizing and valuing the knowledge acquired throughout life. However, the universities of the third age are not recognized by the state as a social response. In order to contribute to research in this area, it is intended, through a case study, highlight the educational and the social role of universities of the third age, including the Senior University of Monforte. Also noted that the Network Association of Universities of the Third Age (RUTIS) moves at present by social recognition of the universities of the third age through a public petition. | pt_PT |
