Abstract(s)
This document covers the work developed throughout the professional internship during a Master's Degree in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, which took place in a hospital in the north of the country, between September 2023 and June 2024. The practice developed throughout the internship allowed experiences with women and families, in the context of labor, birth and postpartum, pregnancy with complications, and the promotion of adaptation to pregnancy and parenthood. This report integrates the description and reflection on the process of care framework within the scope of the professional practice of the Nurse Specialist in Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing, in different clinical contexts, such as assistance to pregnant women with complications, to women in labor, to postpartum women and to newborn, taking into account evidence-based practice, towards the acquisition and development of skills, as determined by Regulation No. 391/2019 of the Official Gazette, published on May 3, 2019. As the Nurse Specialist in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing is a health professional who follows the woman/couple/family throughout the pregnancy, labor/delivery and postpartum process, their intervention must be based on most current scientific evidence, in order to meet the specific needs of each person. Since breastfeeding is an area of great concern for women, and as one of the objectives of the Nurse Specialist in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing is to enhance the health of the postpartum woman/mother and promote adaptation to parenthood, it is essential to correctly identify the causes of nipple pain, so that effective interventions can be implemented to prevent and treat these same causes. The aim, through an integrative literature review, is to deepen knowledge on the topic and constitute a contribution to the practice of nursing that is sensitive and meaningful to women's specific needs, especially regarding breastfeeding.
