Abstract(s)
This investigation focus on the Constructive Simulation, Tridimensional Computer Simulation, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technologies enhanced by Artificial Intelligence as a disruptive technology, and how they can be used to the benefit of the Portuguese Army Instruction System, analyzing how they can enhance it, by identifying its advantages, disadvantages, possibilities and limitations, as perceived by personnel of the Portuguese and Spanish Armies, complemented by observations from other Allied armies. This investigation followed a methodology based on inductive reasoning and adopted a qualitative strategy following a multi-case comparative research design, using documentary and non-documentary data collection techniques, based on documentary analysis, semi-structured questionnaires and interviews. After data analysis, it was found that the analyzed technologies impact the efficiency, effectiveness and risk mitigation of the Portuguese Army Instruction System, although they are not acting as disruptive technologies. As main conclusions resulting from this research, it was possible to verify that interoperability and integration between systems based on these technologies enhance positive effects and that augmented reality minimizes negative effects caused by some technologies, while technological evolution takes precedence over disruptive technology.
