Ana Maria Costa; Instituto Português do Mar e da AtmosferaThis work was based on samples from commercial fleet in the ports of Matosinhos, Peniche, Sesimbra and Portimão. The relationships between the weight of fresh and fixed gonad for one to six months of seven pelagic species - anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), Atlantic horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus), blue horse mackerel (Trachurus picturatus), chub mackerel (Scomber colias), mackerel (Scomber scombrus), sardine (Sardina pilchardus) and blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou) and one demersal species - hake (Merluccius merluccius) of the Portuguese coast were obtained with simple linear regressions, taking into account sex and maturity stage. The ANOVA tests applied to these relationships showed some significant differences, indicating the need to apply specific equations for each of those parameters.
