- Experimental project design for comparative evaluation of post-operative pain using three endodontic irrigation methodsPublication . Zemmache, Mohammed Zakarya; Velázquez González, DiegoAn endodontic flare-up is an acute exacerbation of periradicular pathosis after the initiation or continuation of root canal treatment. It is a multifactorial complication that may be caused by mechanical, chemical, and/or microbial factors. The incidence of flare-ups varies widely in the literature, ranging from 3% to 55%. This wide range can be attributed to differences in the definition of flare-up, the study design, and the population studied. Many factors have been associated with flare-ups, including the presence of preoperative pain, the type of tooth, and the number of treatment visits. The use of certain irrigants and intracanal medications has also been linked to flare-ups. There is a lack of consensus on the best way to prevent flare-ups. Although some studies have suggested that the use of certain irrigation protocols may reduce the risk of flare-ups, more research is required. The objective of this work was to develop a randomized clinical trial protocol to compare pain occurring after endodontic treatment and irrigation with three activated irrigation methods: conventional, IVACTM and Ultrasonic Irrigation (UI).
